Education

LGSS has played a pivotal role in addressing educational need of weaker sections of the society since beginning. In the process of achieving the goal of holistic development, we believe that inclusive, effective and quality education for all in the society is must. Pre schooling and improving basic education at the community level has remained one of the focus areas of our developmental endeavors. The organization has conducted a number of educational programs, workshops and field interventions with a focus on improving quality education and access to it, increasing enrolment of ST/SC and backward students and girls, capacity building of institutions including parents-teachers’, and mainstreaming of school drop outs specially children of migrant workers and vulnerable families. LGSS also works in partnership with government and civil society institutions in strengthening access to quality pre-primary and elementary education with a focus on most marginalized children.

India Literacy Project

The India literacy project started in 2010 with the support of ILP USA, seeks to ensure quality pre-school and primary education in government schools and anganwadi centres to achieve appropriate skills and grade among children and empower adolescents. After successful implementation of the project in Kairo block of Lohardaga, LGSS is currently working in Kisko block of Lohardaga district. The project focuses on 100 % access of children in the age group of 3-5 years to basic formal education in anganwadi centres and quality education for children in the age group 6-14 years with 100 % admission, attendance and retention in the schools. Simultaneously, we are working with anganwadi workers on building their capacities and skills through training on pre-schooling teaching methodologies. Furthermore, to create an enabling environment for children we are engaged with PRI members, community leaders, School Management Committees (SMC), Mata Samiti and Women SHGs on awareness related to RTE.

Education for the vulnerable

The project on “Creating education opportunities for children from the most marginalized communities” has been conceived and implemented in partnership with Save the Children from May 2018. The initiative seeks to create opportunities for children within the age group of 3 to 8 years, with regard to quality pre-school education and school readiness initiatives in the most remote and challenging areas of the state. The project focuses on enabling of child friendly environment in Anganwadi centres and transition of children to primary schools. In accordance with the holistic concept of school readiness intervention at four different yet related domains namely child, family, school and system (i.e. Ready child, ready family, ready school and ready system) have been undertaken.
