Climate change is one of the biggest environmental challenges world is facing in current time. The effects of global climate change are increasingly being witnessed at local level impacting the livelihoods and agro-ecological systems of the rural communities. According to the reports of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) poor communities will be facing the highest brunt due to their limited adaptive capacities and high dependency on climate-sensitive rainfed agricultural systems and natural resources.
Jal(Water), Jungle(Forest) and Jameen(Land) are the fundamental sources of life for the tribal and other rural communities of Jharkhand. The communities live in close proximity with these resources and fulfill their livelihood needs. They have maintained their primitive connection till today. However, the resources are under stress and declining due to various factors such as land degradation, mining activities, deforestation, and increasing impact of climate change in recent times.

Tribal areas in Jharkhand continue to suffer from poor access to health services, information and infrastructures and medical facilities. Mother and child mortality, malnutrition and diseases are disproportionately high among population living in these areas. Health has remained one of the priority areas our work in tribal districts of Gumla, Lohardaga, Latehar and Simdega. LGSS has been working in these districts to improve the awareness and access to quality healthcare services and nutrition for the tribal and marginalized communities.
To safeguard the rights of children and providing protection and rehabilitation support, LGSS has been working with the vulnerable communities in addressing critical issues of child exploitation, violence, abuse, child marriage, child labour and trafficking prevalent in our region. In collaboration with specialist organizations as Kailash Satayarthi Children’s Foundation, Childline India Foundation, Terre Des Hommes etc.
